Middle of Broad
205-207 East Broad Street is a an adaptive reuse and historic rehabilitation of two three story commercial buildings in the Broad Street Commercial Historic District. Conceived as an opportunity to contribute to the life of the arts district, a large studio / gallery addresses the street, while 14 modern apartments occupy the upper floors. The project hinged on getting a tenant for the studio space, while VCU was looking to engage in community design work. Common ground was found and now Storefront and Middle of Broad have opened up shop in the studio space. It is shared by students and faculty from Fashion, Graphic and Interior Design and the Storefront for Community Design for work on community design projects around the city of Richmond.
